RACING TO PAINT AN ARABIAN DREAM HORSE

These days we’re hearing more and more about horse racing, especially, on the new racing program That’s Racing. Fast becoming a favourite. And do you know they’ve even mentioned Arabian racing several times. It’s so exciting to hear the positive comments coming from the comperes of the show. It seems those involved in horse racing are gradually becoming more accepting of Arabian horses racing on the Thoroughbred tracks. Yes, there might be a long way to go BUT any long expedition into the unknown, begins with small and determined steps.
This year the DUBAI INTERNATIONAL ARABIAN RACES (DIAR) & SHADWELL STUD proudly sponsored 2 Arabian Horse Races on 12th March 2016 at the South Australian Jockey Club, Morphettville Racecourse

But aside from the racing there’s a wonderful community and family vibe that is being pushed at present and this was showcased at Morphettville on March the 12th. On the day some of the other events included a Cultural Marquee where everyone was given the opportunity to taste, explore and learn about the Middle Eastern Culture. But a highlight other than the Arabian horses of course had to be the Rainbow Horse competition. This was where several South Australian Primary Schools competed by painting a life size Arabian horse to be exhibited and judged on course during the day.

Over the years I’ve sent books to be given to participants in the Arabian races because I strongly believe that Arabian racing opens up another much needed market for breeders. I repeat what I said in my latest book Consequences. Please, think about participating.

This year I was thrilled to see that six Primary Schools entered the Rainbow Horse competition. The children did an amazing job painting the horses and my goodness what a fantastic way to use my books. The Rainbow horses competition was also turned into an exercise in understanding the UAE culture and the results were really stunning. One horse had Dubai on one side and Adelaide on the other. Horses do tend to bring the world together. Such incredibly talented kids, all the results looked stunning and I only saw photographs!

Apparently, the organisers also made sure that copies of the books will also be in each school library.  I couldn’t be happier thank you to NARA.
It’s a wonderful feeling to know so many of the books will be read in South Australia.
Thank you to Sharon Meyers for sending me these photographs. Sharon is a freelance photographer, writer and editor based in Australia. www.montbrae.smugmug.com

And without the people who support and train the Arabian horses if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have this fabulous opportunity happening. A huge congratulations to all but especially the participants on the day. The only downside for me is that I wasn’t there to cheer on their fabulous Arabian horses.
