Do you want more consistency in life?

If you do want more consistency in your life, you need to be consistent in your methods, habits and way of thinking. What are you trying to achieve by being consistent? This is a question you must ask yourself first. Hopefully rather than trying to be a perfectionist, you are aiming to be truthful, honest, reliable, trustworthy and dependable. And in turn, you are seeking such consistency to be returned to you, in the way of karma.

Five points to find more consistency in life…

1  Be honest. Consistency breaks down with lies. And lies have a life of their own and are soon a web of deceit in which you become enmeshed, unable to pull yourself free. If you are honest and do not make up stories, you will be considered consistent. Moreover, life will also seem far more consistent to you, as you are not wondering all the time what might be about to trip you up.

2  Enjoy routine. Routine is the mother of consistency and peace. Routine is good for you, it enhances your experience of life by anchoring you with life’s essential mundanities. It is not necessary to make all of your day a routine but at least some of it should consist of habitual rituals that calm, center and fulfill you.
3  Keep organized. This may seem inane and obvious but it isn’t. And it isn’t about being tidy. It is about being sure of what you are doing today, tomorrow and next week. In fact, for some it is about knowing what you will be doing in a year’s time and even in a decade’s time, although those goals are much more about directing yourself to a good future rather than a certain exactitude as to what you will be doing. Being organized removes artifices in your life and enables you to concentrate on what matters. This in turn brings great consistency.
4  Be a good and solid friend. Friendships are a good means to obtain consistency in life but you must put in the effort to be a good friend in order to keep a good friend. Someone reliable in whom you can trust, who can also see you in the same light, will bring much consistency to your life.
5  Be flexibly certain. Perhaps this seems a little odd at first but it is about being certain of yourself and where you want to go but to also have the flexibility to realize that we all change, that circumstances change and that dreams change. If you can be flexible within your life’s direction, you will find consistency greets you wherever you turn.
