COINCIDENCE..

Coincidence –
My Macquarie Dictionary explains it as: 2. a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance.

At one stage or another we’ve all experienced a coincidence. For instance – a friend calls just as you are thinking of them. Some coincidences are small, and not that important, but others can change lives. What causes a coincidence to happen, and what does it mean? And what are the odds of a particular coincidence happening?

I read that the likelihood of coincidences happening is higher than most people think. Famous among statisticians the “Birthday Problem” is an example of the high probability of coincidence. It is said one only needs to have 23 people assembled in order to have a 50% probability that two of them will share the same birthday.

My latest coincidence was a delightful email from Jess concerning my novels ‘Tails Carried High’ and ‘Voices in the Wind’ she was asking about the characters and a further reply revealed the most amusing facts…
In the novels I have the following characters Carole (a stud manager) Ruth (a dear family friend) Margaret (an Arabian horse breeder) Emma and Jessikah (main characters)
Here is a little of what Jess emailed me: “the funny thing is that my mums name is Carol and we have a friend called Ruth and and we have a family member that is called Margaret and my sister is called Emma! Also a coincidence is my name too!!! thanks from Jess.”
Thanks Jess it is a fascinating coincidence…..
