Sometimes there are circumstances that enrich our lives. Situations which have you meeting new people and listening to their stories. It was like this for me at Equitana last November. As most would know I was at Equitana to officially launch book two of the Daughters in the Wind series Voices in the Wind. I had the BEST day imaginable – over the top excited. I spoke to so many people about their horses it was quite an Arabian horse mutual admiration society.
Several weeks after I was home I received an email from a lady who purchased a copy of Tails Carried High for her 15 year old daughter Georgia. Imagine my absolute delight when she told me how Tails Carried High had motivated Georgia to start reading again! As a reader and a writer I consider this to be the pinnacle of success. Anne told me Georgia has a white purebred Arab ‘Fadjurema Ricardo’ on whom she is now having lessons.
Yesterday I received an email with photographs of both Georgia and her wonderful Ric. They are about to compete at their first dressage test this month.
I just had to wish Georgia and the lovely Ric a day full of fun and success.
The competitiveness of people always fascinates me – these words spoken by a coach to his team are timely and worth thinking about: “You are all Champions in your own way. That doesn’t mean you have to be number 1 or the best. Just do your best. If you aren’t first then make those people ahead of you break records by pushing them with your personal best. Consider for a moment what we achieve from athletics – the sheer fun of competing – the building of a healthy and alert mind and body – stamina, courage, perseverance, dedication and commitment, selflessness and most importantly, the will to excel.”
Here are two photographs of Georgia and Ric…
