2011 Childrens Book Flood Appeal Says A Big Thankyou To Everyone
Judy Bandidt, the co-ordinator for the 2011 Children’s Books Flood Appeal, advised us today that the collection of books for the Appeal closed on the 28 February 2011. And on behalf of the many children who are already receiving these books, Judy would like to thank the hundreds of people who donated books and time to this novel grass-roots project.
From Western Australia to Victoria, through NSW and right across Queensland, individuals, families, organisations and businesses have provided incredible support to the Appeal project over the last two months. They’ve donated books, promoted the project through the media and the internet, given freely of their time and expertise to manage collection and distribution centres, provided transport for the books, and donated thousands of tote bags to assist in distribution.
Many other volunteers worked tirelessly collecting, sorting and distributing the books too. Judy would like to pass on a since “Thank you!” to everyone who took part in the Appeal. “Without you,” she says, “this project simply couldn’t have happened. You’re all amazing.” In the Brisbane and Ipswich areas, books will continue to be distributed from the Chapel Hill Centre for some weeks. It’s anticipated that the Sunshine Coast centre at Palmwoods will continue for several months, distributing books across rural and regional Queensland including areas affected by Cyclone Yasi.
