The courtesy of ‘Thank-you’
Have you ever given thought to how powerful the words ‘thank-you’ are?
Thank you. It’s simple, right?
Are these two words now so common they have lost their impact. The real truth is these two words have a powerful effect on us all.
From volunteers all the way to your largest corporate executive, saying thank you is a great way to start, grow and keep relationships satisfying.
Think about the last time you did a favour for someone, gave time, money, trophies to an organization. Did the person/committee say ‘thank you’? If you gave money, did you get a thank you note in return?
If you didn’t, you probably remember and were not very happy that your generosity, however big or small, did not get recognized.
When you show appreciation you immediately increase people’s commitment.
Lack of appreciation produces a lose-lose situation and yet the answer is so simple. The words ‘think’ and ‘thank’ are related. If we think we have a reason to thank, then do so. If we’re too busy to acknowledge the good work or services of others, then we are too busy.
Here are a few simple and creative ways to say thank you.
Praise – Praise something people have done well. Identify the specific actions
you found admirable. Tell everyone, not just the person you are appreciating.
Food – Almost everyone loves food. Have a lunch/coffee to express your
appreciation for peoples hard work.
Tradition – Create a tradition. The more often you say thank-you the easier it
becomes.
Share – Share success stories letting people know how important their work is to someone else.
A thank-you is NEVER wasted.
