Day 5 Queensland Writers Week Toowoomba – Two Fascinating Authors.

Steven West with me…

The brainchild of Emma McTaggart the “Hot Seat” at Mary Ryans Bookstore Toowoomba has been a resounding success. Tomorrow is the final day for the authors but we have all come away knowing that we all have very different and often fascinating life journeys. We are all very real individuals in this world.

So this week I left my writing – yet again – and went into Mary Ryans to meet and listen to the authors on Wednesday and Friday. I’m so very glad I did, both have written very different books but both are inspiring men who have writtten interesting reads.

On Wednesday Steven West spoke about his little blue book titled ‘WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE’. This is a genuine and factual account of the author’s experience when he died at the age of 18 years and was sent back after 4 days to finish the tasks he had planned to accomplish in his lifetime. It touches on the fear of death, taking responsibility for our lives and our actions. He also touches briefly on our attitude and how our thoughts are creative, being that we are literally what we think and feel.  A fine message especially for people like myself who are devotees of ‘The Secret’.

Friday I ventured back to Mary Ryans Bookstore to listen to Bob Whittaker talk about his book ‘JELLYBEANS IN THE JUNGLE’

This is a book about Bob’s personal experience serving in Vietnam with particularly poignant dedications. He makes a very clear statement that the people of the world need a better understanding of each other. On the back cover of ‘JELLYBEANS IN THE JUNGLE’ he states: “There is a rule of thumb when it comes to authority and command. It goes something like this. The higher the rank and the more remote the commander is from action, the greater degree of insanity his orders will inflict on his troops. If the people giving orders are driven by ideology or politics, the situation deteriorates further. This rule holds for civilian as well as military affairs”.

~ A BONUS GIFT ~
I think it’s very important to support our independant book publishers, especially our local authors so I purchased a copy of both

‘WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE’ and ‘JELLYBEANS IN THE JUNGLE’ for a lucky reader.

The first person from today who purchases a Daughters of the Wind package of my paperback novels ‘Tails Carried High’ and ‘Voices in the Wind’ from my website www.carmelrowley.com.au will receive these two, signed by the author books, as a bonus gift.
